What are the current and future application scenarios for marine batteries?

20-03-2023

Marine batteries are energy storage devices that can provide power or auxiliary power for boats. They have advantages such as environmental protection, energy saving, and safety. They are one of the important technologies to achieve zero-emission and green development of boats. In recent years, with the increasing requirements of the country for greening and cleaning water transportation, as well as the continuous progress and cost reduction of battery technology, marine battery power technology has been rapidly developed and widely used.

At present, there are various types and sizes of marine battery-powered boats in use or under construction at home and abroad. For example:

The 2000-ton electric self-unloading ship built by Guangzhou Shipbuilding International Co., Ltd.1, which has a total battery capacity of about 2.4MWh and can sail 80 kilometers under full load;
The 500-ton pure electric cargo ship modified by Shanghai Ruihua Group12, which can sail for 50 hours after fully charged and has a range of 500 kilometers;
The pure battery-powered passenger ship design project received by Changjiang Ship Design Institute1 , which is expected to carry 300 passengers and conduct sightseeing tours in the Three Gorges scenic area of the Yangtze River;
The country’s first pure battery-powered container transport ship2 , “Yangtze No. 1”, successfully tested in Nanjing.
These successful cases show that our country has achieved remarkable results in developing and utilizing new energy technologies, and provide reference and reference for other related enterprises. It is estimated that each container transport ship that uses pure battery power instead of conventional diesel power can reduce fuel consumption by 130,000 liters per year and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 340 tons2 . This will greatly promote the greening
